An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Team Lead to join a highly creative and collaborative organisation delivering innovative exhibition and permanent experience design projects.
This role will lead a talented team of designers, overseeing the development of engaging, high-quality design solutions for museums, cultural institutions, and experiential environments. You will play a critical role in guiding the design process, mentoring designers, and ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Design, you will be responsible for leading the design team while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations. This position combines team leadership, creative direction, and project delivery, offering the opportunity to shape exceptional visitor experiences and contribute to innovative design outcomes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of designers while fostering a collaborative and creative culture.
- Oversee the design process for exhibition and experiential projects, ensuring high-quality and innovative outcomes.
- Manage design project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Review and guide design concepts to ensure alignment with client briefs and organisational standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams to deliver engaging visitor experiences.
- Develop and present creative concepts, visualisations, and design documentation for client approval.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of creative leadership, technical expertise, and project management capability.
You will likely have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related discipline
- Previous experience in exhibition, experiential, or permanent design environments;
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience ideally;
- Strong skills in 3D modelling software (e.g. SketchUp) and Adobe Creative Suite
- Knowledge of construction materials and production processes
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- The ability to balance creative thinking with practical project delivery
