The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) plays a vital role in supporting Queensland's rental sector through education, regulation and customer service. As they continue to evolve and to support with Maternity leave cover, they are seeking an experienced Communications Leader for the next 9 months to drive how they engage with their customers, stakeholders and people to deliver high-impact outcomes and build confidence across the sector.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief People and Impact Officer, this is an influential leadership opportunity where you'll shape enterprise-wide communication, education and engagement initiatives while having the ability to be hands on and lead a multidisciplinary team across communications, media, digital, social media, content and design.

Your responsibilities will include:
 

  • Leading the RTA's enterprise communication, engagement and education strategy;
  • Providing strategic advice to executive leaders on communication, media and reputation matters;
  • Driving integrated communication campaigns with stakeholders across digital, media, social and sector channels;
  • Leading organisational communication for strategic projects and change initiatives;
  • Using customer insights, data and best practice to continually improve communication quality and effectiveness;
  • Building strong partnerships across the RTA, government, and sector stakeholders; and
  • Developing and coaching a collaborative, high-performing team while building communication capability and connections across the organisation.

About You

You're a strategic communications leader who combines big-picture thinking with a practical, hands-on approach. Comfortable working in complex government environments, you know how to influence senior stakeholders, navigate sensitive issues and deliver clear, engaging communication that consistently builds trust and confidence.

You'll bring:
 
  • Significant leadership experience across strategic communications, media, digital engagement or corporate affairs;
  • Proven success developing enterprise communication strategies that deliver measurable outcomes;
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to advise executive leaders;
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary communications teams and fostering high performance;
  • Strong media, reputation and crisis management capability;
  • A customer-first mindset supported by data, insights and continuous improvement; and
  • Excellent written communication, judgement and organisational skills.
